Current Trends in Teacher Education: What I’ve Learned in the Teaching and Learning Department at UNLV’s School of Education

This presentation will offer participants an overview of the current trends in teacher education and preparation and provide inclusive classroom activities that will be practiced together.

Dr. Adele Leon received her PhD from the University of Arizona in Rhetoric, Composition, and the Teaching of English. Her research is based in critical feminist and critical race theory and studies structural and organizational issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and reciprocity between higher education institutions and their community literacy partnerships. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, developing a fast-track, DEI-based teacher education MA program in the Teaching and Learning Department. Prior to joining UNLV, she was a Writing and Communications Lecturer at Pima Community College. In this role, she taught Developmental Writing and professional writing courses, in addition to creating and implementing a Liberatory Writing Across the Curriculum program based on her PhD dissertation. ​
