Emotional-Wellness Presentations for Students and Staff

Pima County Health Department is partnering with local behavioral health providers to facilitate free mental wellness activities for K-12  teachers and their classrooms during the 2022/2023 school year.

The following topics are available, free of charge, from local Youth Mental Health Experts. Activities are intended to be presented to K-12 classrooms during a single class period (under 1 hour). At this time, there is no limit to the number of activities a school/classroom may request, although scheduling is dependent on availability from the local provider.


Presentations for Students: 
Text, Talk, Act (TTA)
TTA serves as the perfect introduction to emotional wellbeing and mental health topics by using a text messaging platform to deliver pre-programmed text messages to small groups. The activities are proven to increase comfort and likelihood of participants to talk about and take care of their mental health. Each activity is 50 minutes and led by trained facilitators.
Get students talking about mental health in peer-to-peer groups. Students learn how to take care of their emotional well-being, explore evidence-based coping strategies, and learn how to help a friend.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness draws the brain’s focus to the present moment in an attempt to slow down life and achieve inner peace. Practicing Mindfulness skills can help achieve a balance. It is about paying attention to the current moment, without judgment. This can lead to decreased anxiety, depression, and stress.
Stress Tools
Learn skills to decrease stressful moments and crisis survival: using the five senses, use of imagery, the skill of A.C.C.E.P.T.S., and T.I.P. Learn to get through the tunnel to a calmer state to be able to think logically about problems before acting.
PAX Tools
A collection of nine science-based strategies that can improve children’s cooperation and ability to manage their own behaviors, as well as support social and emotional development. Parents and caregivers can download the PAX App to stay included in the activities being presented to their children.

 

Presentations for Staff:

Povide staff with an activity that helps them talk with their colleagues about how to handle stress, explore evidence-based coping strategies, and learn how to help a student they are concerned about.
Trauma Informed Care
Learn how to help students who have had trauma in their lives. Learn why they “act” the way they do and ways to orient them to safety and help with building new neural networks.
Stress Tools

Designed to help equip teachers and school staff with the PAX tools that can improve children’s cooperation and ability to manage their own behaviors, as well as support social and emotional development.
QPR Suicide Prevention Training
Empowers individuals to effectively intervene on behalf of suicidal and in-crisis people. Training includes learning about common causes of suicidal behavior, warning signs of suicide, how to get help for yourself or someone in crisis, and more about preventing suicide.
