Math for Early Learners: June 5, 2021

Games that Build Fluency Through a Focus on Flexibility, Grades PK-2

Not all games are equally useful in the math classroom. Sometimes flashcards and practice sheets masquerade as games. In this workshop we will use mathematically-powerful fluency-building games to uncover the qualities we need to look for in a game. Participants will play the games and leave with a folder of game rules and game materials.

Early Childhood Mathematics: Building a sense of numbers, Grades PK – 1

How do preschool children build a sense of numbers, and why do some children have a more robust sense of it than others? We will explore the ways a child engages in understanding numbers and ways that we can fortify this understanding in our preschool classrooms.

NOTE: The professional development workshop is aligned with PK – 1 and PK – 2 standards. Teachers that attend outside of this grade band should understand that the experiences and discussions will center on the standards within the listed grade band. That being said, teachers one grade level below and above often gain ideas and strategies from attending.
