Secondary ELA Summer of Writing – Empowering Students through Grammar Instruction

June 25, 2022

Event Name: Secondary ELA Summer of Writing Professional Learning Series

Along with reading comprehension, writing skill is a predictor of academic achievement and essential for success in postsecondary education and beyond. Students need and use writing for many purposes, including communication, to share knowledge, to support comprehension and learning, and to explore feelings and beliefs. Our students in grades 6-12 especially need help finding success with writing as they progress towards adulthood.

The Secondary ELA Summer of Writing Professional Learning Series will explore the three types of writing standards in grades 6-12 (including how to instruct and how to assess), grammar instruction for older students, and college and career writing; as well as a book study on the text The Writing Revolution. Each event can be attended on its own or may be combined with other sessions for the complete Summer of Writing series.

Participants must register for each session individually. All participants who register in EMS and attend the professional learning will be given 1-hour PD credit for the 1-hour sessions and 2-hours for the 2-hour sessions. Certificates will only be available in EMS and no record of attendance will be emailed.

Zoom link will be individually emailed to registrants on the webinar day. Registration closes at 4 PM the day before the professional learning session.
