The Institute for Human Development (IHD) is a disability research, training, and service center located on the Flagstaff campus of Northern Arizona University whose mission is to promote full inclusion by advancing attitudes that value persons with disabilities while enhancing access to all aspects of the human experience. It is part of a national network of 67 University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities emphasizing four core function areas: Research and Evaluation, Interdisciplinary Education and Training, Community Service, and Information Dissemination. Promote full inclusion by advancing attitudes that value persons with disabilities while enhancing access to all aspects of the human experience.
SELECT courses offer asynchronous online access, participants can engage in the course content anywhere they have an internet connection. The LMS is Canvas, which is accessible from phones and computers alike.
Free to all. Professional growth students are not required to pay tuition or fees to access these classes. Some courses have required textbooks.
Many school districts accept the professional growth certificates earned through the program for salary advancement. The certificates are guaranteed to be valid for recertification through the ADE Certification Unit.
Other events such as and the Amplifying Voices Virtual Day of Learning offer Continuing Education (CE) Credit Hours through Northern Arizona University.
The IHD Evidence for Success Disability Conference (in the Phoenix area) offers multiple tracks and diverse disability-related session options including assistive technology, innovative practices in disability disciplines, and American Indian / Alaska Native Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment. It also features a vibrant exhibit hall with opportunities to learn and network.
