The Pima Connecting Children to Nature (PCCN) coalition is a diverse group of community organizations who believe in the importance of children’s equitable access to nature, the benefits of nature-based learning and experiences, and the need to cultivate love for our unique Sonoran Desert. PCCN’s main focuses are:
-
Advocating for Children’s Outdoor Rights
-
Creating new nature-based play spaces for children across Pima County
-
Increasing awareness of inequities in nature access in Pima County
-
Providing nature-oriented professional development for educators
Studies have shown that access to natural space can:
● Foster social-emotional wellbeing
● Improve children’s academic performance
● Reduce nearsightedness
● Improve fetal growth and birth weights when pregnant individuals spend time in nature
On top of these important physical and mental health benefits, playing outside is fun!
