The University of Arizona School of Mining and Mineral Resources Outreach Program provides educators, student groups, and the greater community with resources to develop sophisticated understandings of role of minerals and mining in our everyday lives and the Arizona K-12 curricula in STEM and CTE.
The University of Arizona School of Mining and Mineral Resources Outreach Program is two-fold:
- Our Recruitment Outreach Team works with STEM and CTE teachers as well as guidance counselors to strengthen familiarity with the numerous career opportunities (over 100!) within the mining industry and the educational tracks available to pursue those career opportunities.
- Our Education Outreach Team works primarily with STEM educators to deepen their pedagogical content knowledge of the ways in which minerals and mining concepts could and should be incorporated into their classroom curricula in ways that align with the Arizona State Science Standards.
- The primary PD tools of the Outreach Teams is our four-day minerals academy, Cu at the Mine!, as well as one day workshops at state and national mining, STEM, CTE, and school counseling conferences.
