Join Dr. Brittany Power and Arabic instructor Mimoun Akhiat to learn more about Arabic language and cultures! During the 15-hour Professional Development Workshop, you will learn some basic Arabic conversation to help you connect with Arabic-speaking students and families. You will also learn about Arabic culture, including ideas about time, gender, religion, food, and differences across the region. The instructors will share resources for you and your students to learn more, and recommend materials to make your classroom more inclusive of Arabic cultures. There will also be plenty of time to address the questions that have come up in your teaching about Arabic language and culture. This will also help social workers and others working with refugee and immigrant populations from the Arabic-speaking world.
At the end of the session, everyone who attends regularly will receive a certificate for 15 hours of professional development from the University of Arizona Center for Middle Eastern Studies. The session will meet every Thursday, from 4:30-5:30 PM Arizona Time, beginning on February 5, 2026 for 15 weeks.
