In this webinar, we will explore what quality online teaching looks like through the examination of the National Standards for Quality Online Learning. Next, we will look at considerations for managing students in a Hybrid/HyFlex classroom. Our session will conclude with recommendations and best practices for engaging, synchronous sessions with students fully online or in a hybrid/concurrent setting. Link to presentation slides.
About the speakers:
Betsy Fowler began her teaching career in the Midwest before returning home to Arizona to work at her alma mater, ASU. She served as an English teacher, mentor, and assistant principal before shifting her focus to blended and digital learning. Betsy has spent the last five years focusing on the design and launch of ASU’s online K-12 school, ASU Prep Digital, serving as Director of Curriculum and Principal. Currently, Betsy serves as the Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives, designing and supporting new models of learning. She helped design and lead the AZ Virtual Teacher Institute this year, with the goal of offering quality PD for all Arizona teachers. Betsy hopes to help reshape educational outcomes for all learners at scale.
Alison Hernandez is a twenty-year veteran committed to educating students, colleagues and teachers by establishing strong connections. She spent fifteen years in the Tucson Unified School District where she worked as a high school math teacher, Instructional Coach, Teacher Mentor and Professional Development Academic Trainer before joining ASU Prep Digital in January of 2018. In her current role as Professional Development Manager, she assists in the coordination of the Arizona Virtual Teacher Institute as well as designs and delivers custom training and professional development opportunities for schools not only statewide, but also nationally and internationally.
