In learning to understand the rational numbers as a number system in Grades 6–8, students build on two important conceptions which have developed throughout K–5. The first is the representation of whole numbers and fractions on the number line, and the second is a firm understanding of the properties of operations on whole numbers and fractions. Come and explore how to build on students’ number sense to develop the density of the number line as they extend their understanding of the number system, including integers, percentages, and the coordinate plane.
Hybrid: In-person at UArizona Tucson Campus. Remote via Zoom.
**NOTE: Participants will be expected to take a task back to their classrooms, collect and analyze student work, and share their reflections with the CRR.
