Our Place Under the Stars – Place-Based Science in the Arizona Classroom

June 16, 2026

Place-Based Learning sounds like a good idea but you might have some questions. What exactly does it mean? Why is it significant and how can I actually implement it in my school day? NSF NoirLab and SARSEF are going to help you triangulate your place under the stars and on top of native land, and equip you with tools and information to integrate more place-based learning practices in your classroom.

Educators will leave with a better understanding of place-based learning and the research behind it. Teachers will learn strategies for implementing place-based practices and begin to plan how to utilize the various concepts in their coming school year.

Join us at NoirLab headquarters on the University of Arizona campus for four hours of professional learning. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Participants will partake in a solar telescope machine lab tour and hear from SARSEF and Kitt Peak Observatory educators.

Certificates for 4 hours of continuing education will be provided upon completion.
