This workshop is centered on the state’s literacy-based strand and will focus on the book, The Moon, by Dr. Sanlyn Buxner and contributed to by Dr. Larry Lebofsky.
Dr. Buxner is a local author, faculty member at the University of Arizona College of Education, and part of the Planetary Science Institute (PSI). Together with Dr. Lebofsky, an active scientist at the University of Arizona and space educator with the PSI, Dr. Buxner will lead a workshop that includes hands-on STEM lessons where elementary students learn about the Moon, including its formation and geography, lunar phases, cratering, a history of NASA’s robotic and manned lunar missions, the effect of the Moon on Earth’s tides and nocturnal animals, future careers in space science, recent scientific discoveries by NASA, and more!
You will receive a STEMAZing kit worth $450 that includes all of the materials for you to teach the presented lessons!
Audience: PreK-5th Grade Teachers from Southern Arizona
