Professional Learning Opportunity for Grades 6-12 Earth Systems Educators

Place-Based Learning to Advance Connections, Education, and Stewardship (PLACES) is seeking formal and informal educators who teach Earth Systems topics to youth in grades 6-12 to participate in professional learning and research activities beginning with an in person experience at Pima Community College July 11-13, 2023 and continuing virtually through March 2024. Dates beyond summer are estimated here. Actual dates are TBD.

This NASA-funded program utilizes WestEd’s proven Making Sense of SCIENCE (MSS) teacher professional learning model to engage teachers in data-rich Earth Systems learning through the integration of NASA data sets, images, and resources with instructional activities/ lessons. The program draws upon a place-based approach for promoting data fluency. In a place-based approach, learning is anchored in authentic engagement with local phenomena, physical landscapes, and connections to cultures and communities.

Applications accepted on a rolling basis with initial reviews beginning in April. Educators will be compensated $1,250 for participating fully. For details, please reference this flier or contact Robin Montoya rmontoy@wested.org.
