Providing a Positive Work Environment – Director Leadership – A High Quality Work Life Leads to High Quality Care for Children Part 3 – DES Expulsion Prevention Series

February 23, 2022

As a leader and effective director, one of the key responsibilities that must be addressed is to attract and retain effective teachers for your program. With the current focus on preparing children for academic success, the need for high-quality experiences for children relies on these effective teachers feeling good about their jobs, their co-workers, and their work environment. These feelings have an impact on their job performance and the quality of their interactions with children, parents, and their co-workers. In this two-hour module, participants will reflect on their specific responsibilities as effective directors and leaders to be aware of staff’s work attitudes and behaviors. They will learn strategies that will promote a positive work environment while taking into consideration the various feelings, attitudes, values, and beliefs of their program’s staff. Social relationships and opportunities for staff to collaborate and solve problems as a team play a crucial role in reducing provider/teacher stress and supporting teachers in managing child behavior. Participants will recognize the connection between staff morale, program quality, and how this can lead to lower rates of staff turnover and the need for children’s expulsions. Technical assistance is available after participation in this training.

Note: This training is only for those in a Leadership Position who work for a site that receives DES funding.
